Upon the death of Marshal Miguel de San Románon April 3, 1863 after just six months in office, for the fourth time Castilla assumed the presidency on an interim basis, since neither of the two vice presidents were in Lima. Castile were concerns that remain in power, but only stayed for a few daysuntil the return of Pedro Diez Canseco, the secondvice president, April 9, who took power in the absence of the First Vice President Juan AntonioPezet, who had traveled Europe for health reasons. Pezet turned and took office on August 5that year.
